Box Violins: An Update

I was talking to a seasoned Suzuki teacher about box violins, and he suggested that teachers make the box violins out of "Cracker Jacks" boxes and leave the cracker jacks inside. Then when the student graduates, they can open the box and eat the insides. Yummy!

Something to consider:

  • Is there an expiration date to be aware of for the cracker jacks?
  • The cracker jacks box is smaller than the mac & cheese box.

  1. I prefer the Cracker Jack boxes, largely because of the surprise inside! They can be hard to find, so if I can't find them, I have been using macaroni & cheese and/or travel sized Kleenex boxes. Sometimes I empty the mac & cheese box and put my own surprises inside that the child can find once they graduate to the actual instrument. Sometimes I ask that the parent have a mac & cheese party at home once the child graduates to the actual instrument, as a celebration of their accomplishment.
